Alaska's Engagement Announcement

Alaska, the RuPaul’s Drag Race season 5 alum and All Stars 2 winner, has shared exciting news about her personal life. In an exclusive statement, she revealed that her partner, Matthew Herrmann, proposed to her in her hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania, during her grandmother’s 90th birthday celebration. The moment was a significant one for the drag queen, who expressed her deep love for Herrmann in the statement.

"I love him so much and he's the best," Alaska said, adding several heart emojis to emphasize her feelings. The proposal took place on Sunday night, marking a memorable occasion for both her and her family.

Herrmann, a Los Angeles-based producer and educator, has been a constant presence in Alaska's life. Their relationship has been highlighted through social media posts, where Herrmann often shares photos of their time together. One recent post featured a January snapshot of Alaska's feature interview in the New York Times, which focused on her successful stage show, Drag: The Musical, in New York City. Herrmann commented on the post, saying, "I am so so proud of you."

The news of the engagement sparked excitement among fans and fellow drag queens. Alaska had previously stoked speculation by sharing an Instagram photo of her left hand wearing a silver band on the ring finger. Many of her peers, including season 9 contestant Shea Couleé, All Stars 5 winner, and Ironheart actor, as well as season 13 and All Stars 10 alum Denali, offered their congratulations in the comments. Other messages came from season 14 and All Stars 10 queen Bosco, season 3, All Stars 1, and All Stars 4 queen Manila Luzon, and perennial competitor Jujubee, among others.

Before meeting Herrmann, Alaska was famously involved with Sharon Needles, the RuPaul’s Drag Race season 4 winner and fellow Pittsburgh drag queen. The couple was together for several years before parting ways in 2013. Alaska had previously auditioned multiple times for the show and even appeared in the audience during the season 4 finale before finally landing a spot on the season 5 cast. She finished as a finalist and later returned to win All Stars 2 in 2016.

In addition to her success on stage, Alaska hosts the weekly Race Chaser podcast alongside another RuPaul’s Drag Race season 4 alum, Willam. She also competed on VH1's supernatural series Scared Famous.

Alaska's journey has been marked by resilience and talent, and her recent engagement is just another milestone in her life. Fans and followers are eager to see what comes next for the drag queen, both personally and professionally.
