A Magical Journey in "The Librarians: The Next Chapter"

Olivia Morris, a talented actress known for her roles in "Hotel Portofino" and "The Head," found herself drawn to the new series "The Librarians: The Next Chapter." She explained that after working on more serious projects, she was eager to dive into something filled with magic and escapism.

"I absolutely adore all of my body of work. I love it. But, this is the first show that is complete escapism. There is nothing in it that is polarizing or upsetting," Morris said during a recent Zoom interview. While she acknowledges the value of shows that provoke thought and debate, she believes that "The Librarians" offers a unique kind of relief.

"In a time where things are complicated, having a show that allows people to relax and enjoy the silliness is so valuable," she added. The show, created by Dean Devlin, concluded its first season on TNT and has already been renewed for a second season.

Morris plays Lysa, a scientist who inherits a castle in Belgrade that serves as an annex to a secret library housing supernatural artifacts from history. She teams up with Vikram (Callum McGowan), a 19th-century librarian transported to the present, Connor (Bluey Robinson), a conspiracy-theory podcaster, and Charlie (Jessica Green), a skilled fighter, to protect the world from powerful magic that has been unleashed.

Beyond being entertaining, the show emphasizes the importance of teamwork and knowledge. Morris noted that the audience for the show is intelligent and passionate about the material. "These fans are clever. They are honorary librarians, and you can see that in the scripts," she said.

She also shared how challenging it is to deliver lines that are "bonkers" while making them sound effortless. "I must look like a crazy person in my flat when I'm rehearsing because I'm determined to make it seem easy," she joked.

Morris hopes that young viewers will be inspired by the characters who use their brains and hearts rather than physical strength to overcome challenges. "These characters are superheroes—ones that are incredibly smart and empathetic," she said.

Devlin, known for his work on "Independence Day" and "The Ark," has been a great collaborator, according to Morris. "He's always ready to meet questions with curiosity, which is what an actor wants," she explained.

She also appreciated the opportunity to discuss the story and characters with Devlin, especially given the extensive history of the franchise. "There have been three films and a whole series before us, and Dean knows the world better than anyone," she said.

The franchise began in 2004 with a trilogy of TV movies starring Noah Wyle, who also served as an executive producer for "The Next Chapter" and the original TV series that ran from 2014 to 2017.

With its blend of humor, adventure, and heart, "The Librarians: The Next Chapter" offers a fresh take on the genre, appealing to both adults and families. As the show continues to grow, it’s clear that the magic of the library and its team of heroes will keep captivating audiences.
